Sugarfish is now open at The Commons at Calabasas. The famed sushi chain replaced La Salsa, which closed last summer.
What makes Sugarfish sushi unique is the style in which the food is prepared and served, said Michael Lee, the Calabasas location general manager.

"It's pure sushi," Lee said. "We offer a very concise menu, no soups or salads or fusion rolls."
Sugarfish founder, chef Kazunori Nozawa, who has served up sushi for more than 50 years, launched Sushi Nozawa in Studio City in 2008 to much acclaim.

"Ours is a very food-centric concept," said Lee. "We serve warm, loosely packed rice, with cold fish. It melts in your mouth."
Sugarfsih is best known for three types of “Trust Me” or prix fix meals and range in price from $17-$40 dollars.
"We do also offer certain items ala carte but most people come in for the 'Trust Me' menus," said Lee.
The restaurant has already attracted a celebrity following.
"The Kardashians are here a lot," said Lee.
Jaden Smith often stops in, too, he said.
Sugarfish is located at 4799 Commons Way. The hours are Mon-Sat., 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sun. 12-9 p.m. The phone number is 818-223-9966.
