Threats Made Against Calabasas On Social Media

"Hate of any kind has no place in our city," city officials stated.

CALABASAS, CA — Calabasas officials reported on the city's Facebook and Twitter accounts that threats were made against the municipality on social media. According to a tweet from 8:57 a.m. on Monday, the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Department has been made aware of the threats and is monitoring the city’s social media accounts.

City spokesperson Bob Burris was not able to give any more information than what was reported in the tweet. There are no public threats currently on the city’s official Facebook or Twitter pages.

Burris said that the situation in Calabasas has been calm. According to a Saturday Facebook post by Mayor Alicia Weintraub, the only noted activity were 10-15 protesters who have since dispersed. Weintraub also posted Sunday afternoon that the Lost Hills-Malibu Sheriff’s Station will be significantly increasing the number of deputies.

Lost Hills-Malibu Sheriff’s Station Acting Captain Chuck Becerra recently posted on Facebook that the threats are not credible, writing: "We at Lost Hills Station know some of you are seeing the few social media posts that reference your community and a call to riot or loot there. This is occurring all over the country and is a customary tactic, used for decades to create fear. Don’t buy into it. LASD has a specialized unit dedicated to fishing for and reviewing these types of postings. By the time you’ve seen the posting, we’ve vetted it via our cyber crimes and criminal intelligence units."

A countywide curfew is in effect in Calabasas and all of Los Angeles County Monday night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday.
