12-Acre Fire off 101 Extinguished
The blaze on the north side of the Ventura Freeway and east of Las Virgenes Road snarled traffic Sunday but prompted no evacuations.

A 12-acre brush fire on the north side of the 101 Freeway and east of Las Virgenes Road was extinguished Sunday around 1:40 p.m., according to the city of Calabasas' website.
About 200 firefighters were sent to the scene after the fire was reported at about noon. Two of the westbound 101 lanes were blocked by fire trucks.
There were no evacuations, but Capt. Sam Padilla of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said people should always be ready to leave, especially during fire season.
Now that blaze has been knocked down, investigators will try to determine the cause, he said.
