“The motive and circumstances associated to this incident are still under investigation,” police said.

SANTA CLARA, CA — A body was found over the weekend in a burned house in Santa Clara on the same day a man was shot and died nearby, according to police.

Officers responded around 12:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a possible person shot in the 600 block of Enright Avenue and arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. He died at the scene, according to police.

Officers determined a nearby home was on fire, and police, using drones, found the body Friday evening in the back of the burned residence, according to authorities. Hazards and structural damage prevented investigators from being able to safely access the body until Saturday, police said.

“SCPD Detectives have continued to investigate this case, using all available resources, and believe this was a targeted attack with no further threat to public safety,” the Santa Clara Police Department said in a social media post. “The motive and circumstances associated to this incident are still under investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 408-615-4814 or email dbell@santaclaraca.gov, or anonymously call 408-615-4847, according to police.
