SAN JOSE, CA — A Target store in San Jose was ordered to close its entire grocery section Friday after a customer reported seeing rats and found evidence of rodent activity throughout the food aisles, according to a report by KRON4.
The infestation was reported at the store on North Capitol Avenue, where a customer spotted rodents near the refrigerators and bread aisle and documented droppings and chewed food packaging on shelves, Santa Clara County health officials told KRON4. Santa Clara County Environmental Health inspectors responded and confirmed the problem, ordering the grocery section closed on Friday.
ServiceMaster cleaning crews were spotted at the store Wednesday, confirming they were on site to clean the affected areas, KRON4 reported.
A second San Jose Target, on Blossom Hill Road, received a separate rat complaint last week but resolved the issue within one day, county officials told KRON4.
The North Capitol Avenue store has not yet requested a follow-up inspection.
The grocery section can reopen as soon as inspectors confirm the infestation has been resolved.
