'Baby Christopher' Born After Mother Dies In Wednesday Hwy 101 Crash

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – An 18-year-old pregnant woman killed in a two-car collision Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose has been identified as Dulce Capetillo Hernandez, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

Capetillo Hernandez, of San Jose, was a passenger in a 1998 Honda Civic involved in a collision reported on northbound Highway 101 south of Tully Road that blocked the two right lanes around 1:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.

A GoFundMe page has been made by Capetillo Hernandez's aunt Yesenia Ortiz to raise money for the young woman's funeral. The 18-year-old woman was seven months pregnant when she died and leaves behind a premature baby boy, according to Ortiz.

The fundraiser has raised $665 of its $10,000 goal as of this afternoon. The page is available at https://www.gofundme.com/2kcgtfx5.

"Dulce passed away unexpectedly in a car accident at seven months pregnant," friends wrote on the fundraiser site. "Unfortunately she did not make it, She leaves behind her premature Baby Christopher with her loved ones. We are asking for any donation to help with the funeral costs."

A 20-year-old San Jose man driving the Honda let the vehicle go off the road and crash into the back of a 2002 BMW 745i parked on the shoulder, leaving both cars with major damage, CHP officials said.

Initially, the two people in the Honda and the BMW driver were transported to a hospital for minor injuries, according to the CHP. Capetillo Hernandez was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for leg pain. She underwent an operation for traumatic injuries to her torso and was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The 18-year-old woman's child is in critical condition as of this morning, Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou said.

Capetillo Hernandez, who was also known as "Dimplezz," posted on her Facebook page that she was a "Mommy to be" and attended Independence High School in East San Jose.

The Honda driver also had leg pain and was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose. The BMW driver, later identified as 22-year-old Hung Tran, was also taken to the same hospital for complaint of pain and later arrested on suspicion of DUI, CHP officials said.

Investigators don't suspect the Honda driver was driving while intoxicated, according to the CHP.
