CACCC launches “Mindful Self-Care for Caregivers" Training
An 8-week course for Chinese American family caregivers, volunteers and healthcare professionals
San Jose CA – July 14, 2020—The Chinese American Coalition for Compassionate Care (CACCC) is proud to launch “Mindful Self-Care for Caregivers”, two training sessions in August 2020 and October 2020, an 8-week course for Chinese American family caregivers, volunteers and healthcare caregivers. Each session will accept 12 qualified registrants. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the trainings will be held virtually online, with two hours of class every Tuesday for 8 weeks. Through the generosity of CC and Yuling Han Foundation, 24 eligible Chinese American community caregivers will receive full scholarships for the 8-week course in 2020.
- 1st Session: 8/11/20-9/29/20, every Tuesday, 7pm to 9pm (PT)
- 2nd Session: 10/6/20-11/24/20, every Tuesday, 4pm to 6 pm (PT)
In 2019, CACCC collaborated with Zen Caregiving Project (ZCP) to develop CACCC’s “Mindful Self-Care for Caregivers, a new culturally appropriate course for Chinese Americans based on ZCP's Mindful Caregiving Education program. Over 1,000 hours have been invested in program development on instructor training; translation and compilation of Chinese training materials, and creating a book club to deepen mindfulness.
As a result, CACCC has created a positive experience and learning environment where participants can confidently express their challenges and worries about self-care; have the opportunity to reflect on their current lifestyle and behavior; learn how to take care of themselves to improve their overall physical and mental health and take better care of their patients. The foundation of this whole teaching method is "mindfulness".
