Firefighters Knock Down Blaze At Loma Prieta Elementary School

Crews from Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties at the scene. Classes canceled at two schools.

Firefighters have knocked down a fire that was burning at Loma Prieta Elementary School in unincorporated Santa Clara County this morning, Cal Fire said on Twitter around 1:40 a.m.

Cal Fire first reported the fire, happening at Loma Prieta Elementary School at 23800 Summit Road, at 12:45 a.m. on Twitter. The school is near the border of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties.

Firefighters from Santa Clara County, Scotts Valley and Felton are on scene and assisting, Cal Fire officials said.

Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day, according to Cal Fire.

The district announced that classes are canceled at the elementary school and at C. T. English Middle School.

“Due to a fire in the Loma Prieta Community Center/gymnasium facility, both schools will be closed on Monday, August 31, 2015,” Loma Prieta Joint Union School District stated this morning on its web site.
