Local Record Shop Kicks Off Your Friday Night
On the Corner record shop offers up music, art and no sales tax on the last Friday night of the month.
is a little slip of shop, but like most small stores, what it lacks in square footage, it makes up for in character. I’m talking pure, unadulterated soul channeled by owner Jeff Evans.
The vinyl specialty shop, situated quite honestly on the corner of E. Campbell and Dillon avenues, offers a choice collection of used records.
“I try to follow an aesthetic: a little something for everyone,” Evans said.

But more importantly for this column, are On the Corner Music’s monthly soirees.
Typically the last Friday of every month, (although this month is was a Saturday- check out their Facebook page for more details) Evans stays open late to offer music, local art, snacks and no tax on all records to patrons who venture inside.

From 7 p.m. until 11 p.m., this little store tries to channel the metropolitan vibe of San Francisco or New York. With its’ faded vermilion cement floors, stacks of records neatly piled in boxes and bags, and records and silver stars gracefully suspended it the windows, On the Corner Music rocks the type of attitude necessary to make it an ideal stomping ground for music and art lovers alike.
Evans’s hope is that his events can be an alternative to going to a bar, for families and singles alike, or even a jumping off point--a place to begin the night. The events are free and open to all ages.
The key is that it’s low key. Local artwork is displayed on the walls while music pulses in the background. People mill around, munch on chips and salsa or cookies and peruse the records.
It’s a trip down memory lane for some. The shop carries all genres you can imagine, from classic rock, which Evans insists has made a resurgence of late, to Disco, 80’s and beyond. Be sure to feast your eyes on the hand-painted mural on the wall taken out of the record Miles Davis in Concert.
When I asked Evans what the significance was he laughed softly.
“You know those things you carry with you from childhood?” he said, “Well, it doesn’t mean anything.”
There you have it. Go forth and become immersed in some great Bay Area culture.
