SAN JOSE - An injured man who collapsed after getting off a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus died at a hospital in San Jose last weekend, a transit agency spokeswoman said.

A review of the video cameras installed on the bus showed the man's injuries were not related to any contact with the bus, VTA spokeswoman Stacey Hendler Ross said.

The man hasn't been identified as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

He boarded the bus at Tully and Senter roads before he off-boarded near Snell Avenue and Blossom Hill Road just north of state Highway 85 late Saturday night into Sunday morning, Hendler Ross said.

As the bus driver pulled away he saw the man collapsed on the sidewalk from the rearview mirror and called the agency's operations center for help, she said.

An ambulance crew responded and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Hendler Ross.

She didn't know the nature of his injuries, but the severity was enough to cause him to collapse.

San Jose police are investigating the incident.
