Pedestrian Fatally Struck On Freeway

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Capitol Expressway in San Jose on Tuesday night, according to police.

SAN JOSE, CA — A pedestrian died after being hit by a car on Capitol Expressway in San Jose on Tuesday night, according to police.

The man was crossing Capitol Expressway east of Copperfield Drive outside of a marked crosswalk. He was struck by a black 2018 Tesla sedan traveling east, said San Jose police, who responded to the call at 8:56 p.m.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The driver and two passengers in the vehicle were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive.

There have now been 25 fatal collisions on San Jose streets this year, 11 of which involved pedestrian deaths, police said.
