Officials ID 23-Year-Old From Santa Clara Co. Who Died Jumping From Cliff At Garden Of Eden

Breaking: The man was with friends and leaping off rocks at the swimming spot at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – A 23-year-old San Jose man who died after jumping off a cliff at Garden of Eden swimming hole near Felton last week has been identified as Oscar Peraza, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.

Peraza had jumped about 40 feet down from rocks at the popular swimming hole at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park around 4 p.m. Wednesday and landed on rocks, State Parks Sgt. Joe Walters said.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and saw other visitors performed CPR on him, Walters said.

Rescue personnel loaded Peraza on a Stokes basket and lifted him up to a landing zone where they continued providing CPR, but he was pronounced dead around 5 p.m., according to Walters.

Bystanders reported the man was consuming alcohol with friends and leaping off other rocks before the last jump, Walters said.
