SOFTBALL: Leigh Blanked By Leland

Chargers slow down Longhorns; hold hosts to only four hits.

Leland 4, Leigh 0

Behind a stellar showing from starting pitcher Devyn Quevedo, the Leland High softball team shutout Leigh High 4-0 on a toasty Thursday afternoon at Leigh High in San Jose.

The victory broke up a second place tie between the two schools, giving Leland a narrow edge in the standings over Leigh and helped move Leland to within 1.5 games of first place Westmont with two games left to play in Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton division play.

Leigh, now 16-8-1 overall and 8-4 in league action, needs to win one of its final two games next week to clinch a berth in the Central Coast Section playoffs that begin in two weeks.

The Longhorns were held to only four hits, two of which came in the fifth inning. Down 2-0, sophomores Allie Bost and Alina Chetcuti each reached base via a hit.

However, both runners were eventually left stranded.  Leland scored two more runs in the top half of the sixth and went on to win the game by the same score.

Quevedo and Leigh starter Lizzie Hogan both pitched complete games on Wednesday.

Leigh wraps up regular season play next week with games against Piedmont Hills at home and on the road at Mt. Pleasant on Thursday.
