Reader Writes: Voter pamphlets for Measure AA missing correct argument against bond measure

Election 2016

We appreciate the Registrar of Voters office correcting the mistake in the ballot book. Unfortunately, this situation has caused some confusion to voters about Measure AA.

As the proponents, we want to make sure voters are well informed and understand the importance of this local measure for our high schools – Boynton, Branham, Del Mar, Leigh, Prospect and Westmont.

Our high schools have served our community for decades, and we are fortunate that our community has invested in them. Why this bond? Why now? The world’s most innovative and fastest growing industries are right here in the heart of Silicon Valley. We need to ensure that our students are the best trained and the most prepared for future success.

Our 60-year-old spaces used for job training and science instruction are physically sound but do not meet today’s educational standards. We cannot expect our kids to be a part of the new breakthroughs of Silicon Valley without the classrooms, labs and technology needed to acquire the modern skills to compete for these jobs.

Measure AA upgrades classrooms and labs; enables students to learn engineering skills in modern labs instead of home economics classrooms; improves school access for students, teachers and staff with disabilities; repairs leaky roofs and removes hazardous asbestos; and upgrades infrastructure including wiring, networks and instructional technology.

Measure AA provides locally controlled funding that cannot be taken by the State, and every penny benefits our high schools. Independent citizen oversight and annual audits are required to ensure funds are spent on voter-approved projects only.

We encourage voters to visit our website to learn more and join parents, teachers, elected leaders and the business community in voting Yes on Measure AA.
