Bay Area 'Party Mom' Witnessed Hot Tub Sexual Assault Of Intoxicated Teen, Prosecutors Allege
Shannon O'Connor is accused of hosting parties for her freshman son and his friends, where significant amounts of alcohol were concealed.
SAN JOSE, CA — Text messages from the “Los Gatos Party Mom,” were shown to jurors on Tuesday, including one that read, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” according to a report by KRON4.
Shannon O'Connor, dubbed the "Party Mom," faces trial on charges of allegedly hosting an underage gathering at a leased Santa Cruz beach house in October 2020, which caused roughly $9,000 in damages. Prosecutors also accuse her of pressuring high school students into sexual activities.
O'Connor, a mother of two, actively encouraged underage teenagers and their friends to consume alcohol, prosecutors said. Her text messages, presented as evidence by prosecutors in the courtroom, demonstrated this, they contend.

"Party Mom" used Snapchat to talk to teens without their parents' knowledge, district attorney's said. A prosecutor asked John Doe 5 why frequent discussions about sex with a woman in her 40s seemed normal; he admitted, “Looking back on it, it’s pretty weird,” KRON4 reported.
According to text messages shown in court Tuesday, the mom took a group of her son’s friends to Las Vegas, and as soon as their plane landed, O’Connor’s son wrote in the group chat, “Someone give me a f**king beer,” KRON4 reported.

O'Connor responded with, “I’m down. Champagne? (Let’s) hit the pool with drinks, lots of drinks,” KRON4 reported.
A prosecutor presented a May 2020 cellphone video during court showing a pool party at O'Connor's house. The video, recorded by O’Connor, was deemed relevant because some sexual assaults between minors occurred in the jacuzzi, and the video proves O’Connor had a clear view of the pool area from her kitchen, according to KRON4.
Prosecutor's allege O'Connor witnessed a boy sexually assault an intoxicated victim, Jane Doe 3, in the jacuzzi during a New Year’s Eve 2020 party, according to an affidavit by, Christina Hanks, the DA's investigator.
According to Hanks, a witness said the victim was so intoxicated, she was repeatedly "drowning" because she could not hold her head above water and had to be carried from the jacuzzi.
A teenage girl, identified as "Jane Doe 7," testified for several hours on Jan. 13, at the trial of the 50-year-old Los Gatos "Party Mom." She recounted her relationship with the defendant's son, which began when they were both 14, and detailed a pattern of manipulation by the mother, making her feel trapped. Jane Doe 7 described being underage and binge drinking with a group at the mother's house, where the woman reportedly exerted control over the teenagers.
Prosecutors said O'Connor's actions, which included coercing intoxicated Los Gatos High School students into sexual activities at private parties for her own gratification, constituted criminal events. Court documents cite evidence such as video footage showing intoxicated students vomiting and smashing cans, surveillance records of numerous liquor deliveries, and the homeowner's account of the house being left in disarray.
“She's been held without bail since the moment she was arrested. That is typically reserved for our most serious offenders,” said Stephen Prekoski, O’Connor’s defense attorney, in a statement. “She's clearly not a murderer. She is, in fact, I think very unlikely to be a repeat offender.”
Court documents also revealed that O'Connor frequently hosted private parties for her freshman son and his friends, where significant amounts of alcohol were concealed. She often served as the only adult present during her husband's absences.
One teenager testified that O'Connor, who was described as acting like a "popular girl," was the sole adult at several clandestine gatherings where more than 30 unsupervised teens engaged in binge drinking and passed out. Witnesses also indicated that she selectively invited specific girls to ensure the events remained secret.
In an interview with the Mercury News during the trial, O'Connor suggested that other parents also permitted their teenagers to drink throughout the pandemic and asserted she wasn't fully aware of the amount the teens were consuming.
