Breaking: The San Jose woman is suspected of running over the victim with her car, fatally injuring her.

CAMPBELL, CA – A 23-year-old San Jose woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder and felony hit-and-run in what the Campbell Police Department says is the first suspected murder to have occurred in the city in over two years.
According to Campbell police, the deadly incident involving murder suspect Elsie De La Rosa was reported just after 7:15 a.m. Tuesday on Montemar Way, near the intersection of Leigh Avenue. A caller reported there was a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the location, while another caller reported a disturbance, police said.
Officers arrived and found a 23-year-old woman lying in the roadway, suffering from major injuries. The victim was taken by ambulance to Valley Medical Center, where she died later that day, police said. The victim's identity had not been publicly revealed Thursday morning.

Witnesses told officers they saw a woman drive away from the scene in a gray four-door vehicle.
De La Rosa was identified as the possible driver of that vehicle, police said, and information was developed indicating that she and the victim knew one another. Police did not elaborate on the extent of the relationship, but believe De La Rosa and the victim where in the vehicle together when the alleged altercation began.

Campbell police noted that the neighborhood where the incident took place was not associated the involved parties. They appeared to have arrived at the location by chance, police said.
On Wednesday, Campbell officers located and arrested De La Rosa. She was taken into custody at approximately 11:50 a.m. in the vicinity of MacArthur Avenue and Pfeffer Lane, police said.
Santa Clara County jail records show De La Rosa was booked on suspicion of murder and felony hit-and-run. She was being held without bail and was due in court Friday.
