Work Crews Hit Gas Line Wednesday Morning At Pruneyard Shopping Center

Nearby businesses were ordered briefly to shelter in place.

A demolition crew struck a gas line across the street from The Pruneyard Shopping Center in Campbell this morning, police said.

The crew notified police of a gas line that ruptured at the southeast corner of East Campbell and South Bascom avenues around 10:30 a.m., Campbell police Capt. Gary Berg said.

The crew was at the site of a former restaurant that was torn down, Berg said. A hazardous materials team responded to the scene, where they found a three-quarter-inch gas line had ruptured and were able to close it, Santa Clara County fire spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.
