521 Cars Screened Near UC Santa Cruz Campus During DUI Checkpoint

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The California Highway Patrol and campus police officers conducted a sobriety checkpoint near the University of California at Santa Cruz campus on April 20. More than 520 cars were screened, according to the CHP.

Three sobriety tests were conducted and no arrests were made, the CHP said. The checkpoint was part of an effort to step up enforcement efforts on a day when cannabis is celebrated.

Motorists caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
