Armed Robbers Take 10 Pounds of Marijuana, $1000 from Herbal Cruz

The medical marijuana dispensary was robbed at gunpoint on Thursday evening.

For the second time since the spring, Herbal Cruz, a 41st Avenue medical marijuana dispensary, has become the victim of crime.

Two men entered the building and made off with $1,000 in cash and about 10 pounds of marijuana around 8 p.m. Thursday, Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland told Capitola-Soquel Patch.At least one of the two was armed, she said.

According to priceofweed.com, 10 pounds of high-quality marijuana in Santa Cruz is valued at $26,400.

There were four people inside Herbal Cruz at the time of the robbery: two employees and two volunteers, according to Skalland. Another person was just outside and also witnessed the crime.

The two men fled in a car, which the Santa Cruz Sentinel describes as silver with black rims, a broken headlight and paper license plates.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made. 

Thursday's robbery is far from the first of its kind. Mid-County medicinal marijuana dispensaries have been targeted by thieves and vandals this year.

"There's money there and there's a lot of drugs there," Skalland said. "If you go to the local TV store, you know you're going to have a bunch of TVs there. If you're going to go to the pot dispensary, you know there's going to be a bunch of marijuana there. I think it's just easy."
