Authorities Hunt for Man Who Groped Teen Jogger

A 17-year-old was nearly assaulted in Aptos on Thursday.

Santa Cruz Sheriff's deputies are busy Friday on the lookout for multiple criminals. On top of in Watsonville on Thursday night, authorities also have an eye out for a man accused of groping a girl Thursday evening. 

A 17-year-old girl was jogging down Sumner Avenue in Aptos toward Seascape Resort when she saw a parked car on the side of the road with the trunk open and a man standing behind it.

"She ran past the side and he came out from behind the car," Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said. "He was masturbating and he tried to grab her. Then she took off running. He didn't touch her but he tried to."

The man is described as six feet tall, 250 pounds with a groomed beard. He was wearing black sunglasses, a black t-shirt and dark jeans. His vehicle is a black sedan, possible a Pontiac. See the sketch of the suspect above.
