Blasting Music Leads To Area Felon's Arrest For Drugs And Guns

A convicted felon allegedly found with drugs and a gun was arrested Monday after a traffic stop for playing loud music in Watsonville, police said today.

Ramon Rodriguez, a Watsonville resident, was driving a car and playing loud music on East Lake Avenue near Union Street where an officer spotted him, Sgt. Michael Ridgway said.

The officer issued a citation to the driver and noticed he was moving items around in the vehicle, according to Ridgway. The officer learned Rodriguez was on probation for narcotics violations, the sergeant said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered more than an ounce of methamphetamine, a .22-caliber firearm with a loaded magazine and a methamphetamine pipe, Ridgway said. Further investigation into Rodriguez revealed he was allegedly selling methamphetamine, according to Ridgway.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale, transporting a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, probation violation and other offenses, police said.

He was also cited for violating the city’s amplified sound ordinance and driving without a driver’s license, according to police.
