Blog: Ma Maison — A Find for Foodies

I made a great discovery last night. I think it is one of the area's best kept secrets since no one else was partaking of this delight.

I went to Ma Maison restaurant in Aptos, tucked away off Soquel Drive in a charming old house with beautiful gardens on the deck. Inside, the dining rooms were decorated to a Francophile's delight with bouquets of fresh sunflowers, Monet-looking art on the walls and French music quietly playing in the background.

So another restaurant you say... Not just anything ordinaire! Between 5:30-6:30 p.m. they have a prix-fixe dinner at $19.98 that includes entree with either a starter course or dessert. I had a delicious and fresh salade and steak with shallots, frites and fresh haricot vertes (string beans). I couldn't resist trying the profiteroles. Absolutely delish.

Local wines are served by the glass at a reasonable price. This place is a find, especially the prix-fixe meal. You do have to ask for that menu — seemed to be hush hush even though it is on the Intertet and on a board outside. Bon Appetit!
