Cabrillo College to Cut $3 Million from Budget by August

The college has 90 days to slash millions.

Students and staff were notified last week in an email sent from Brian King, president and superintendent of Cabrillo College, that by Aug. 1, the college must hash out a plan to cut $3 million from the operating budget for fiscal tear 2011-12.

Here's wha's been announced regarding the budgets cuts:

  • The Cabrillo College Governing Board and College Planning Council (CPC) have approximately 90 days to decide what will be cut.
  • The cuts will affect college operations for FY 2011-12, which starts July 1. 
  • Work to design a new budget will be ongoing throughout the summer.  
  • The CPC met Wednesday to begin discussing what will be cut. Future meetings have not yet been announced.
  • The governing board and CPC plan to cut an additional $4-$6 million from the budget in February 2012.
  • In an effort to maintain transparency, the college has a Budget & Benefits Information website.
