Campus 'Threat' Prompts Extra Deputies At Aptos High School

APTOS, CA — Over the weekend, Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office deputies were made aware of a potential threat to Aptos High School by a student, which has prompted extra security on the campus Monday.

Deputies were able to track down the 14-year-old male student, who was interviewed in-depth, and it was determined the his social media threat was meant as a joke with no intention to carry out any harmful acts, according to the sheriff's office.

Though the post did not contain a threat of violence, deputies searched the student's home and verified that he did not have access to weapons, according to the sheriff's office.

There were no criminal charges filed, although the school is now further investigating the issue, according to the sheriff's office.

As a precautionary measure, there are "numerous deputies" at the school to ensure everyone’s safety, the sheriff's office said.
