Capitola Begonia Festival This Weekend
The nautical parade, sand castle building contest and more. Get ready for fun--and crowds!

The highlight of Capitola’s Begonia Festival has to be the nautical parade. Sunday at 1 p.m., the 62nd Annual Nautical Parade will feature begonia covered barges floating down Soquel Creek to the Lagoon. If you haven’t attended in the past, imagine Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses parade. Now substitute begonias for roses and Soquel Creek for Colorado Boulevard. Make sure whimsy is involved, and you’ve got an idea of what the nautical parade is all about.
While the nautical parade is the highlight, it’s certainly not the only reason to attend the festival. There’s also a sand sculpture contest, live music, chalk art on the sea wall, horseshoes on the beach, and much more. Check the Begonia Festival website for a complete schedule of events.
One more thing--take the free shuttle. You’ll be grateful for this tip.
