Couple Arrested in Boulder Creek Stabbing

The attack happened outside a popular restaurant.

A couple was arrested Tuesday in connection with a stabbing that injured two people earlier this month at a Boulder Creek restaurant, a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s lieutenant said today.

Kyle Spencer Shields and Sonia Dawn Jepson, both 32-year-old San Mateo residents, were arrested in an alleged stabbing at the parking lot of Scopazzi’s Restaurant at 13300 Big Basin Highway around 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 13, sheriff’s Lt. Bob Payne said.

The couple dined at the restaurant and left without paying their bill, according to Payne.

A 24-year-old employee and a 68-year-old customer followed the couple to the parking lot, where an altercation occurred that resulted in them being stabbed, Payne said. The victims were treated for their injuries, which were not considered life-threatening, he said.

Detectives were able to identify the San Mateo pair with the help of a witness who took down the license plate number of the vehicle the suspects fled in, Payne said. Based on the license plate number, detectives were able to identify and obtain arrest warrants for the suspects, according to Payne.

The suspects were arrested without incident and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail, where they are each being held on $200,000 bail, he said.

Shields was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and Jepson was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory and battery, Payne said.
