Update: Dead Man Pulled from Soquel Creek

A dead man was found floating in Soquel Creek on Friday morning, local media is reporting.

The man was found behind Nob Hill Foods just before 11 a.m. on Bay Avenue, according to KION.

He was discovered when a resident went behind the grocery store to look at the rain-swollen creek, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The middle-aged white man, wearing dark clothes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Capitola Police Chief Rudy Escalante said the man's body was caught in an eddy near a pump station. His cause of death wasn't immediately known but foul play is not suspected. Escalante said an autopsy is planned for Monday or Tuesday.

The man's identity also has not been confirmed. Police have been looking for a transient man who had been camping somewhere along the creek and even put up fliers. But there was no sign of that man or a campsite near where the dead body was discovered Friday, Escalante said.
