Duo Arrested For Sidewalk Vandalism In Santa Cruz

Some 33 marks were spray-painted along Pacific Avenue.

Two people were arrested Tuesday for allegedly vandalizing sidewalks in downtown Santa Cruz, according to police.

Abbi Samuels and Jonathan McHenry were arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and conspiracy to commit a crime. On Tuesday morning, officers responded to Pacific Avenue in response to a report of vandalism in the downtown area. Officers said the suspects spray-painted markings in 33 different locations throughout the downtown area.

The vandalism consisted of square corners painted on the sidewalk and were designed to imitate actual city authorized markings that designate areas where the public can legally display items, police said. Investigators were able to obtain video surveillance that showed Samuels and McHenry spray-painting the square corners on city sidewalks, police said.
