Ellen Pirie Steps Down as County Supervisor Tuesday

Pirie, who will be succeeded by Zach Friend, leaves her positions after 12 years.

Santa Cruz County Supervisor Ellen Pirie will attend her last Board meeting Tuesday, stepping down after 12 years.

Pirie oversaw District 2, which includes Capitola and a small part of Watsonville. In her last few months as supervisor, she helped implement several projects, such as a no-shoot zone on upper Eureka Canyon Road and an Aptos Village Plan. .

Pirie and her husband Terry Hancock are now planning to join the Peace Corps to teach English abroad for two years.

Supervisor Zach Friend will be stepping into her seat, and is to be officially sworn in on January 2. Earlier this year, Pirie endorsed .

Friend will be picking up a number of remaining issues, such as the proposed renovation of the Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center in Aptos.
