FIFTY dancers in vibrant costumes will take to the stage to share traditional Hula and Tahitian dance and music Sunday, March 10, 2013! Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of Polynesian culture as Santa Cruz's own Te Hau Nui (Tay How Newee) School of Hula and Tahitian Dance celebrates its 15th Anniversary. The anniversary ho'ike will feature music by the popular Ho'omana Hawaiian Band, steel guitar by local favorite Patti Maxine and live drumming with Kaili Francis all the way from Kauai! Refreshments, raffle tickets and T-shirts will be sold. Te Hau Nui has shared the stage with musical greats such as Taj Mahal and Te Vaka and showcases dancers ranging in ages from 5 to 55. Enjoy one of Santa Cruz's favorite dance companies and one the biggest Polynesian events of the year, celebrating the sacred and festive dances of the islands. Te Hau Nui's last ho'ike celebration did sell out so get your tickets early!

Since 1997, the dancers of Te Hau Nui School of Hula and Tahitian Dance have celebrated Polynesia through the sacred and festive dances of Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand. Kumu Hula, Lorraine Kalei Kinnamon, is a student of the esteemed Loea Frank Kawaikapu Hewett and has toured the world performing Polynesian Dance. Classes are offered at the Santa Cruz Dance Company, Capitola Jade Street Community Center, UCSC, and at the Tannery World Dance and Cultural Center in Santa Cruz.
