SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA ā Investigators say an early Monday morning fire at an Aptos restaurant caused significant damage but does not appear to be arson. The blaze that broke out at approximately 2 a.m. at The Hideout, 9051 Soquel Dr., damaged the eatery and a nearby business. "Heat and smoke damage was evident throughout the building. Fire burned through the roof in several locations," according to the Aptos/La Selva Fire Protection District & Central Fire Protection District of Santa Cruz County.
Within 30 minutes, firefighters managed to contain the majority of fire to one area of the building, although crews remained on scene for approximately two hours, according to authorities. No injuries were reported. Investigators believe the fire started in a storage shed attached to the building's exterior. The exact cause remains under investigation.
