Gift Shop Replaces Capitola Coffee Roasters

Truth be told, I headed down to Capitola Village today to take a photo of what I thought would be a vacant building at 105 Stockton Ave.

The space used to be occupied by Capitola Coffee Roasters, but the java joint's lease expired in June and owner Michaella Olavarri packed up shop just after July 4. Earlier this month, Capitola Coffee Roasters relocated to the Capitola Book Cafe, and so far is seeing great sucess in its new location. 

So today I thought I would snap a photo of the empty building for this week's "What Should go Here?" feature, that often sparks great conversation in the comments section.

But instead when I got to the Village, I found French Squirrel, a new gift shop that now takes up the space. 

French Squirrel was closed, so I couldn't get a close look or get the difinitive scoop from an owner or employee, but here's what we can surmise together from the photos above: French Squirrel offers art, books, photos, collectibles, etc.

It's not the first of its kind in Capitola Village. But perhaps it's a more suitable neighbor to Armida Winery, making that entire building less beverage-based.
