Kids With Fireworks Possibly To Blame For Another Area Fire

This one was Thursday night near Twin Lakes State Beach.

A vegetation fire sparked by fireworks in Santa Cruz on Thursday evening is the second fire that has occurred on the property in the last three days, fire officials said.

At 5:50 p.m., firefighters were called to 979 17th Ave., near the walking trails of Twin Lakes State Beach. When firefighters arrived, they found a vegetation fire that was approximately one-quarter acre in size. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the blaze within 30 minutes, fire officials said.

According to witnesses, several juveniles were seen in the area lighting fireworks. Fire officials determined the fireworks landed on the dry grass, which caused the blaze, fire officials said.
