Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing Gun In His Santa Cruz Home

He told cops he lit a firework, but there was no evidence of that, police said.

Police arrested a Santa Cruz man Wednesday after he allegedly fired a gun in his home and did not cooperate with officers, police said Thursday.

Officers responded to an alleged domestic disturbance at about 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Trescony Street, according to police. A person at the home told police Brandon Geiger, 37, was intoxicated and left, police said. Officers said they then went to the 100 block of Hebard Street to get in touch with Geiger to see how he was doing.

When police arrived at the home, Geiger’s front door was open and officers allegedly heard a gun go off, police said.

Officers took cover and called for help, but Geiger walked out of the home, according to police. Still, he allegedly did not cooperate with officers and was reluctant to tell them what happened, police said. He said he set off a firework, according to police. Officers entered the home and found no evidence that Geiger set off a firework, police said.

They did find a loaded semi-automatic pistol and several rounds of ammunition. Officers arrested Geiger on suspicion of felony reckless discharge of a firearm and obstructing officers, according to police.
