Funds raised at the 3rd annual New Leaf’s Taste at the Tee will be donated to Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group, who will in turn provide financial support to Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services and five other local cancer support groups.
The golf tournament will take place Thursday, July 24 at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos. New Leaf's goal is to raise $30,000 from the event. Last year, $22,000 was raise for Grind Out Hunger. The money raised will be distributed by SCCBG to its six beneficiaries: Hospice of Santa Cruz, Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Association, Katz Cancer Resource Center, WomenCARE, UCSC Fellowship for Cancer Research and the Teen Kitchen Project. Since its founding in 1995, the SCCBG has raised over $1 million for its beneficiaries.
About Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services
Jacob’s Heart exists to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and support their families in the challenges they face. Since 1988, they have served more than 500 families in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and South Santa Clara Counties. When a child is diagnosed with cancer the entire family is in need support regardless of socioeconomic status. Two of the services Jacob's Heart provides:
• Providing nourishing food: 2 grocery bags of food and a gift card are delivered every other week to families who have a child with cancer, or to bereaved families. This helps keep all members of the family nourished and helps keep life as normal as possible during a disruptive and challenging time.
• Providing peer-to-peer support : this service helps parents navigate the path when a child has cancer.
