New Leaf's Taste at the Tee Raises $22,870 for Local Cancer Services & Research

Presents check to Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group for its beneficiaries

120 golfers enjoyed a full day of fun activities at the fourth annual New Leaf’s Taste at the Tee golf tournament fundraiser on July 23 at Seascape Golf Club. The event raised $22,870 for Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group (SCCBG) who will distribute the funds to its six local cancer beneficiaries: Hospice of Santa Cruz, Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Association, Katz Cancer Resource Center, Teen Kitchen Project, WomenCARE and UC Santa Cruz Fellowship for Cancer Research.

The sold-out golf tournament included lunch, golf scramble, tastes of food, beer and wine at several holes around the course, dinner, silent auction, raffle and prizes.

New Leaf’s Taste at the Tee has raised almost $80,000 for local nonprofits since it was launched in 2012. Of the total, $48,875 has been donated to SCCBG, the sole beneficiary of 2014 and 2015 golf events. “New Leaf Community Markets has shown tremendous leadership in supporting the Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group through the golf tournament and many other activities over the years,” said Terry Hardin, long-time SCCBG board member. “We are very grateful for the Taste at the Tee donation; it will have a very significant impact on our local cancer support and research beneficiaries who provide vital services for our community,” he added.
