New Waste Hauling Options For Rural Santa Cruz Co. Residents
Franchise agreements have expanded rural waste hauling.

CAPITOLA-SOQUEL, CA - From The County of Santa Cruz: The County of Santa Cruz is pleased to announce new waste hauling options for rural residents.
The County Board of Supervisors recently approved two new waste hauling agreements with Kunz Valley Trash and Summit Waste and Recycling, allowing the companies to legally offer hauling services. While GreenWaste Recovery has exclusive rights to collect waste and recycling in urbanized areas of the County, the
new agreements will supplement hauling in remote areas and facilitate compliance with county waste hauling requirements.
County ordinance requires all waste collection to be governed by a local franchise agreement. Waste hauling requirements help protect neighborhoods and the environment by preventing illegal dumping by unscrupulous operators. The new agreements include:

- Operations restricted to areas outside the Universal Service Area (see link below)
- Primary franchisee GreenWaste Recovery has right of refusal for new customers
- Refuse delivered to either Ben Lomond Transfer Station or Buena Vista Landfill
- Customers will be provided full recycling collection services
- Yard waste collection available to all customers
- Food waste collection offered if directed by the County or State law
