Nominate Locals Who Champion Government Transparency

We want to know how you feel about the transparency of the Capitola city government.

Do you know people in Capitola who have championed local government transparency? Capitola-Soquel Patch is participating in Sunshine Week 2012, which begins on March 11, by promoting the Sunshine Week organization’s national Local Heroes contest.

We’ll also be talking up, covering and conversing with you about open government and freedom of information on our site during that week so stay tuned.

This week we want to kick that conversation off with a call to action to you to nominate local open government champions who have played a significant role fighting for local government transparency.

We want to hear your stories of local government transparency (or lack thereof). The City of Capitola has been faced with a tsunami of challenges in the last year from rent control to flood damages to budget issues that have put them in a position to be upfront with the people. Do you think they have lived up to that task? Tell us your nominations or stories in the comments.

To formally nominate a Sunshine Week honoree, who could be awarded in Washington, see this nomination form:   www.sunshineweek.org/LocalHeroes/LocalHeroNomination.aspx
