Santa Cruz Co. Coroner IDs Victim Of Hit-and-Run

A woman struck and killed by a car on state Highway 1 in Santa Cruz early Wednesday was identified Thursday as 59-year-old Dene Shaw, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner’s office.

Officers responded to reports of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian in the area of northbound Highway 1 and River Street around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Arriving officers found a woman, later identified as Shaw, on the roadway and emergency crews pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police. A description of the suspect and suspect vehicle was not immediately available Thursday morning.
