Santa Cruz Jury Finds Ex-Con Guilty of Molesting Teen Girl

A 50-year-old man has been convicted of molesting a teenage girl in 2012 and faces more than 150 years to life in prison, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

A jury found Corey Nevin Marshall guilty on 20 counts related to child molestation. He will be sentenced Jan. 6 in the Santa Cruz County Superior Court.

The 20 counts include oral copulation with a child, lewd acts with a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy, sexual penetration, witness dissuasion and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

An investigation into Marshall’s activities showed that he engaged in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl that began in August 2012 with Marshall writing her love letters and expressing his intention to marry her.

Marshall previously served 17 years in state prison after a conviction in 1986 in Contra Costa County for multiple counts of forcible sexual assault, district attorney’s officials said.

“This community owes a great deal of gratitude to the ladies and gentlemen who served on the jury and who carefully weighed all of the evidence before reaching their verdicts,” Assistant District Attorney Rafael Vazquez said. “Their verdicts ensure that the defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison and he will not victimize any other child in our community.”
