Santa Cruz will see more mattresses recycled thanks to a State program with an event on June 23rd.

CAPITOLA-SOQUEL, CA - From the City of Santa Cruz: The City of Santa Cruz received over 5,000 mattresses for recycling in 2017, up by 900 from 2016. This is attributed to the Bye Bye Mattress program which has eliminated recycling drop-off fees. The program will accept old mattresses and box springs free of charge on Saturday, June 23, at 207 Natural Bridges Drive from 8 a.m. to noon. The Bye Bye Mattress trailer at this location will accept a maximum of five items per vehicle.
The City also accepts mattresses and box springs free of charge Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as part of the state recycling programat the Resource Recovery Facility, 605 Dimeo Lane.
“Thanks to Bye Bye Mattress, the City is seeing far fewer mattresses illegally dumped throughout town,” said Waste Reduction Manager Mary Simmons.“According to the Mattress Recycling Council, Americans dispose of an estimated 20 million mattresses and box springs every year with the majority ending up in landfills or incinerators — we are helping to reduce these numbers in Santa Cruz.”
