Soquel Grad Helping Stanford toward Volleyball Title

Brian Cook graduated from Soquel in 2010 and is a centerpiece in Palo Alto.

Over the hill in Palo Alto, the Stanford men's volleyball team is inching its way toward an NCAA tournament final four berth, and a local boy in right in the midst of the success.

Brian Cook, who graduated from in 2010, is a sophomore at Stanford and is one of the Cardinal's outside hitters. 

So far this year, Cook has amassed 354 kills, good for second on the team. In his freshman season (2011), Cook started 22 of 24 games for Stanford and had double-digit kills in eight matches. Before college, he played for the national team in the Junior World Championships.

Stanford is set to face UC Irvine on Saturday at 7 p.m. The match can be viewed on a free webcast here. If Cook's team is victorious, they will play in the national semifinal on Thursday, May 3. The National Championship will be held two days later, televised on ESPN. 

Note: Cook's older sister, Karissa Cook, is primed to play her senior year as setter for the Stanford women's volleyball team this spring.
