Suspected Jewelry Store Robber Arrested In Watsonville

Police say the man entered the Main Street establishment and threatened customers on Tuesday afternoon.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly entered a jewelry store and began breaking items and then left with stolen merchandise.

At 4:29 p.m., officers responded to a report of a silent robbery alarm occurring at Don Roberto’s Jewelers, located at 319 Main St., according to police Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect had fled on foot, police said. All of the people inside the business at the time of the robbery were unharmed, according to police.

Officers quickly sent out a suspect description to all officers and an alert officer quickly spotted a man matching the suspect’s description, police said.

When the officer attempted to contact the suspect, he fled on foot and the officer followed, according to police. Officers were able to capture and detain the suspect near the corner of Main and Rodriguez streets, police said. Police identified the suspect as Salvador Silva.

Officers found Silva with stolen property from the store and several witnesses identified him as the suspect, according to police. After an investigation, police determined Silva went into the business and began breaking items in the store. He then stole $1,000 worth of merchandise and also threatened people inside the store, according to police.

Police arrested Silva on suspicion of robbery, resisting arrest, vandalism and a probation violation.
