Task Force: Convicted Felon, 18, Busted With Loaded Gun In Bedroom

The suspected gang member was re-arrested Thursday on Bree Lane in Watsonville.

A Santa Cruz County task force arrested an 18-year-old convicted felon and suspected street gang associate Thursday when officers located a loaded gun in his residence in Watsonville, an official said.

Members of the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Gang Task Force on routine patrol at about 6 p.m. Thursday went to the home of Raul Castillo Arana in the 300 block of Bree Lane in Watsonville, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Yanez.

Arana was on active probation for a felony conviction, which permitted authorities to legally search his residence, and he is restricted from possessing firearms under its terms, Yanez said.

While searching inside Arana’s bedroom, task force officers recovered a loaded revolver that had a serial number but was not registered, he said.

Officers arrested and booked him into the county jail in Santa Cruz on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm as a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and violating his probation, he said.
