Tattooed Parolee Busted with Heroin and Dagger in Live Oak

Sheriff's deputies hit two birds with one stone Monday afternoon when they took both a concealed weapon and heroin off the streets of Live Oak.

At 3:04 p.m. on Labor Day, a deputy on foot patrol approached a group of five or six men at 18 Rockview Dr., many with "full-sleeve tattoos," Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said. 

The deputy spoke with the men and asked one in particular, Timothy Gallegos, if he had any weapons on him. Gallegos divulged that he did have a knife in his right sock and that he was on parole for robbery. 

The deputy confiscated the fixed-blade knife, which Skalland said was six inches in length including a three-inch blade, and took Gallegos to Santa Cruz County Jail.

"Gallegos told the deputy that he needed the knife for self defense because people wanted to fight him," Skalland said.

During processing at the jail, Gallegos was searched and a small bag was found in the coin pocket of his shorts. Inside the bag was a tar-like substance identified as heroin, Skalland said. 

Gallegos was charged with carrying a concealed dagger and possession of heroin.
