For Those Interested: Cold-Water Survival Class Coming Up

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association (AMSEA) will offer an 18-hour cold-water safety and drill conductor workshop in Monterey, CA on Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23, at the Division of Conservation and Science of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, 99 Pacific Street, Suite 100-A.

Instructor, Beverly Noll, will cover cold-water survival skills; EPIRBs, flares, and maydays; man-overboard recovery and firefighting; flooding control and dewatering pumps; immersion suits and PFDs; emergency drills, helicopter rescue, life rafts, and abandon ship procedures. In addition, there will be an in-the-water practice session where workshop participants will practice skills with PFDs, immersion suits, and a life raft.

This workshop meets the training requirements for documented commercial fishing vessels operating beyond the federal boundary line. This two-day workshop is offered at a reduced cost of $75 to commercial fishermen, thanks to support from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The cost is $195 for all others.
