Tidy up pledge

Since Earth Day this year, I made myself a promise that I would pick up bits of trash as I walked about town. I don't pick up everything I see, and I don't make a big to-do about it, but when I see a cup, straw wrapper, receipt, or something that doesn't look too germ-filled, I stop and pick it up and place it in the trash. I can tell you it is easy to want to just walk past and not do this. As the weeks go by though, it has become more of a habit for me and I don't even think much about it any more, I just do it. For such a busy little town, Capitola Village is pretty neat and clean. These little bits probably just escape from folks and get blown around by the ocean breeze. I keep hand sanitizer in my bag so I can clean my hands. It is really such a small thing to do and I hope it helps keep our Earth and this beautiful community just a bit tidier.
