Towels In Dryer Set Live Oak Laundromat On Fire

No injuries reported in the Tuesday incident.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a laundromat fire in Live Oak in Santa Cruz County on Tuesday, a Central Fire Protection District spokesman said.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters received a report of smoke rising from a roof at Fairway Wash & Dry at 1600 Capitola Road near 17th Avenue, district spokesman Mike DeMars said. The laundromat’s owner and an employee attempted to put out the fire but were unsuccessful, DeMars said.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the building’s front door and roof vents. Firefighters entered the business, where they found flames in a clothes dryer.

Crews extinguished the fire about 20 minutes later and no injuries were reported, he said. Investigators determined towels from a home cleaning business were left behind in the dryer and caught on fire, DeMars said.
