1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured In Bicycle-Motorcycle Crash In Carlsbad

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into a bicycle in Carlsbad, authorities said.

CARLSBAD, CA — One person was killed and two others were seriously injured when a motorcycle crashed into a bicycle Monday in Carlsbad, authorities said.

The deadly crash happened at about 1 p.m. when the motorcyclist was fleeing from a state parks officer on Carlsbad Boulevard near Palomar Airport Road, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

"The preliminary investigation has revealed that the motorcyclist was being pursued northbound on Carlsbad Boulevard by a state parks officer for excess speed and reckless operation of the motorcycle when the collision occurred," police said in a news release.

The bicyclist, described only as male, died at the scene of the crash. The 28-year-old motorcyclist and his 22-year-old female passenger were seriously injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call police at 442-339-5559.
