2 Killed In Overnight DUI Crash On Route 76: Police

The intoxicated driver survived but a 65-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman died, according to police.

PALA, CA — Two people are dead and a third faces charges after an overnight crash in Pala, according to police.

The incident occurred around midnight Wednesday on State Route 76 at Pala Mission Road, police said. Jesus Munoz was driving a Nissan Xterra east when his vehicle entered a westbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Rav-4, according to police.

The driver of the Rav-4, a 65-year-old man from Vista, was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a 59-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Toyota, police said.

Munoz, 43, of Vista, was taken to an area hospital for injuries that were major but not life-threatening, according to police. He was arrested and faces charges including felony driving under the influence and homicide-related offenses, police said.
